Kumasi Asante Kotoko recorded their first win in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage against Zambian side Zesco United.
The home side opened the account on the 10th minute mark through petite midfielder Kwame Bonsu with an assist from Yacouba Songne.
The porcupines created decent chances after the lead to increase the tally, after both Fatawu Safiu and Yacouba Songne saw their efforts go off target.
Zesco United posed some threat to the back line of Kotoko after conceding the early goal in the match which made Emmanuel Badu cause an easy penalty after fouling his opponent in box .
Goalkeeper Felix Annan rescued Kotoko from conceding on the 20th minute mark by saving Jesse Jackson Were’s penalty kick.
Speedster Emmanuel Gyamfi doubled the lead in the first half with a tap in from close range after Yacouba Songne had squared the ball across the face of goal with some 24 minutes played in the game.
Zesco United came in strongly in the rest of game to score one through substitute Rahim Osumanu after 75 minutes of play.
Zesco United dominated the second half with pressure in search for the equalizer of the game to secure two-two scoreline at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, but Kotoko were able hold on to the pressure to win the match with 2:1 scoreline to pick the maximum three points.
The Group is open after two games played each team has three points.
Kotoko will travel to Zambia to play Nkana FC in week three fixture on February 24,2019.
