The 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft was a dream come true for two young Ghanaians who were among the first 24 players drafted by various MLS clubs.

Defender Roy Boateng, a product of University of California, Davis, and midfielder Anderson Asiedu of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), were drafted by New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United respectively.

The Red Bulls acquired Boateng from Cincinnati via a trade as the No. 16 overall pick. The four-year letterman at UC Davis started 81 of the 84 possible matches for the Aggies in four seasons.

Boateng was named a two-time All-Far West Region selection by United Soccer Coaches and he is currently the reigning two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Year.

Atlanta United selected Anderson Asiedu with the No. 24 overall pick.

Asiedu, 22, is a native of Dormaa Ahenkro, Ghana and played collegiately at UCLA and Monmouth University. He was a two-time All-Pac 12 Conference player and totalled four assists and three goals in two seasons with the Bruins.

He was named MVP of the 2019 MLS Combine. Before transferring to UCLA, he was named All-MAAC in his two seasons with Monmouth where he recorded five assists and two goals.
