Referee Association of Ghana (RAG) has suspended retired referee Alex Kotey due to a comment made on Happy FM Sports Show.

The retired Referee on radio made an assertion that no referee in Ghana has integrity, since he can’t single out a referee following Ana’s number 12 documentary. However, his comment seems offensive to RAG in what they call “defamatory”.The association has served Kotey with suspension after several ways by RAG to meet him proved futile.

The letter signed by Kwao Sampson, deputy General Secretary stated that, until Alex Kotey appears before RAG committee, he is suspended form all football activities and RAG activities.

The release reads:

Dear Sir,
Following your defamatory comments made on Tuesday, 21st August, 2018 within the hours of 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at Happy FM Sport Show, the Association attempted to have you appear before the Executive Committee of RAG for explanation. However, on several occasions, you failed to make yourself available.

Besides, the explanations you adduced in last correspondence with respect to the comments you admittedly made, could not convince the Association to put the issue to rest. This is because the Association perceives that its integrity has been badly dented and the image of RAG seriously tarnished by your defamatory statements on radio in the eyes of the right thinking people of the society.

Granted the above circumstance, the Executive Committee of RAG, at its last meeting held on 15th December, 2018 decided to suspend you provisionally from all RAG and Football related activities until such a time that you make yourself available to appear before the Executive Committee to establish the fact thereon.
