Ghana’s Thomas Partey has earned a nominee for the BBC African Player of the year nomination after the Atletico Madrid midfielder cemented his place as an important figure for both club and country this year.
The 25-year-old helped Diego Simeone’s side to a second-place finish in La Liga last season and they won the Europa League.
Although he has sometimes been overlooked by Simeone this term, Partey continues to be a leading light for his nation.
He captained Ghana in friendlies against Japan and Iceland in the summer and has become the driving attacking force in the team.
He is in contention with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane both of Liverpool. kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, and Juventus defender Medhi Benatia.
The midfielder will represent his country in the AFCON 2019 qualifier against Ethiopia to seek qualification into next year’s tournament.
Thomas has made 10 appearances scoring two goals with one of them in contention for goal of the season against Athletico Bilbao in the La liga
