The South Africa Banyana Banyana beat Mali 2-0 to book a place in the grand finale of the 2018 Total Africa Women’s cup of Nations, Ghana.
Tactical South African side wasted no time bringing forth their supremacy in the first department of the game. Banyana Banyana readiness to feature in the finals was urged on the 30th minute, courtesy of Chrestinah Kgatlana left foot strike following a defensive blender by the Malians.
Mali on several occasions surged forward for an equalizer before the break which was not recorded, ending the first half with South Africa leading by a goal to nil.
Second half commenced with no sign of rest from Banyana Banyana, as they mounted pressure on the Malians.Creating goal scoring chances upfront but could not find the net. The Malians were excellently curtailed in all aspect of the game, recording no shot on target. Continuously kept threatening the backline of the South Africa, leading to Janine Van Wyk been penalized by Referee Jonesia Kabakama with yellow card.
Undoubtedly, the best player of the tournament Chrestinah Kgatlana bicycle kick had a different direction to post in the 89th minute.One minute after, Ester Ramalepe doubled the favourites lead to 2-0, credit to a long range strike to the outreach of goalkeeper Adoudou Konate.
Ester goal cemented the final place for the South Africans. Banyana Banyana goes to the grand finale marking it their fourth appearance, having lost in 2000, 2008 and 2012 finals.
South Africa led by Coach Desiree Ellis will face defending champions Nigeria on Saturday, 1 December 2018 following their 4-2 penalty shot outs win against Cameron at the Accra Sports Stadium.
