Prempeh College, Sakafia SHS, Osei Tutu SHS and Islamic SHS secured qualification to the round of sixteen at the expense of Amaniampong SHS, Aduman SHS, Dadease SHS and Konongo Odumasi SHS respectively in the ongoing Inter-school soccer competition of the Ashanti Region.
T. I. Amass-Ksi and KSTS also booked their tickets to the quarter finals of the same competition today at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Here is a summary of proceedings at the end of day 3.
Match 1. Sakafia SHS 2:0 Aduman SHS
One of the pre-tournament favourites Aduman SHS were kicked out by last year quarter finalist Sakafia SHS in a very entertaining game. Aided by a penalty goal, Sakafia SHS proved too difficult to break down as Aduman searched for the equalizer unsuccessfully. The Islamic school managed to add a second goal to seal the win against Aduman SHS.
Match 2 Prempeh College 1:0 Amaniampong
Prempeh College managed to get the needed goal to clinch victory over Amaniampong after a very difficult game for both sides. Amaniampong had a good strategy to hold the Prempeh lads and managed to do so successfully for a while. However Prempeh proved unyielding as they searched for the match winner to clinch qualification to the next round.
Match 3: Osei Tutu SHS 1:1 Dadease Agric SHS
Osei Tutu were lucky to win 5:6 on Penalties after two sides played a 1:1 drawn game in regulation time. This match of equals saw the two sides concentrating their play in the middle with occasional break outs in search for goal.
The game ultimately had to be settled on penalties with Osei Tutu SHS winning the penalty lottery by 6:5 to qualify for the next round.
Match 4: Islamic SHS 1:0 Konongo Odumasi SHS
Last year finalist Islamic SHS were pushed to their limit by a very good KOSS side.
KOSS looked solid in defence and fluid in the middle but lacked potency upfront to convert their chances. Islamic scored the only goal against the run of play to silence the efforts of Konongo Odumasi SHS.
Many fans at the stadium were very impressed with the output of KOSS.
Match 5: T. I. Amass-Ksi 0:0 Kumaca (4:3 penalty win for Amass)
T.I. Amass looked unimpressive in their game against Kumasi Academy as they struggled to live up to expectation. KUMACA were not not overawed by Amass as they held them to goalless drawn game. Amass were not clinical upfront as they squandered the few chances they created. They however managed to redeem themselves by winning 4:3 on penalties to become the first school to qualify for the quarter finals.
Match 6: KSTS 3:0 Ejisuman SHS
KSTS produced an awesome productive football to silence a very good Ejisuman side by 3:0 in the last game of the day. Ejisuman were not bad though but two errors from their goalkeeper gifted KSTS two rebounds after the keeper failed to deal with two shots. KSTS punished Ejisuman in all two occasions and added a third goal to cement their lead and pick a second ticket to the quarter finals.
