Ghanaian Joe Dodoo has surprisingly been left out of Rangers’ Europa League squad.
Rangers have named their squad for their Europa League clash against Progres Niederkorn – and attacker Joe Dodoo is a surprise omission from the squad.
The Gers return to European competition on Thursday evening, as they will take on Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg in a Europa League qualifying.
For many fans, Thursday’s meeting at Ibrox is the first chance to see the club’s summer signings in action, and a host of Pedro Caixinha’s additions have been named in the squad to face Progres.
Bruno Alves is named in the squad despite being on international duty with Portugal, but Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena, Dalcio, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos are all included, with Daniel Candeias missing through red tape over his deal.
With Caixinha naming a 30-man squad, some player had to miss out. Rob Kiernan, Andy Halliday, Michael O’Halloran and Harry Forrester are far from surprising omissions given that they are all expected to leave the Gers this summer, but Joe Dodoo exclusion has come as a shock to many.
Signed from Leicester City last summer, the Ghanaian hit five goals in his first season with Rangers last term, including a superb brace in the 3-0 away win over Aberdeen under Caixinha.
However, the pacey attacker has been left out of the Rangers squad, sparking rumours that the 21-year-old forward could also be leaving Glasgow this summer as Caixinha re-tools his squad.
Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Dodoo’s future, with many believing that he is far more deserving of a first-team spot than Martyn Waghorn, and should be kept at Ibrox as he has huge potential that simply hasn’t been realised yet.
Others aren’t quite so convinced by Dodoo, with some even believing that a new winger – possibly Hearts star Jamie Walker – could be heading to Ibrox in Dodoo’s place, with many surprised to see Caixinha leave him out of the squad in the first place.
I’ll be gutted if the rumours about Dodoo are true. I know he’s raw but he has so much potential. Sandy Fraser @sfraser3
Please someone tell me why waghorns still getting in about the squad and dodoo isnt?
No dodoo or MOH makes me think walker is on his way! Either that or another winger! If not would only leave 3 in the squad!
Where does this fascination with Dodoo come from? He runs around like he has two left feet.
Even if he is going out on loan I’d have Dodoo in over Waghorn. He’d be better with the experience cause he’s staying and Waghorn isn’t
