For the first time ever, Right to Dream has no less than 5 graduates in the 30 man squad Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has chosen to face Ethiopia in the African Cup of Nations qualifier next month.
They are Mohammed Abu, Abdul Majeed Waris, Yaw Yeboah, Thomas Agyepong and Godsway Donyoh.
Columbus Crew midfielder Mohammed Abu makes a return to the Black Stars set-up whilst in-form Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris earns a recall after sterling performances in Ligue 1 this season.
FC Twente’s Yaw Yeboah, on loan from Manchester City, earns another call-up to the senior squad after the winger previously linked up with the Black Stars last year.
Appiah has also given first time call-ups to two other young Right to Dream graduates. Fellow Man City loanee, Thomas Agyepong makes the squad after the forward helped NAC Breda finish 5th in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.
Completing the quintet of Right to Dream alumni in the squad is winger Godsway Donyoh who has been an outstanding performer for Right to Dream’s partner club FC Nordsjælland. A regular starter for the Danish Superliga side, Donyoh notched 8 goals in 43 appearances and has established himself as a fan favourite at the Farum based club.
“Five players in the Black Stars squad is a milestone for Right to Dream. Everyone in our organisation is immensely proud of this achievement, and to us it underlines the importance of reaching out for your dreams, when given the opportunity. Right now these 5 young men are living out their dream after years of hard work and dedication at the academy. And that’s what Right to Dream is all about,’” says founder Tom Vernon.
Ghana will play Ethiopia on Sunday June 11 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi before later travelling to the United States where the Black Stars will face Mexico in Houston, Texas on June 28 and USA in Connecticut on July 1.
The USA game could well be a huge occasion for the Right to Dream family with many RtD graduates currently studying at schools and colleges in the New England state.
