Adu Gyamfi Senior High School, Osei Kyeretwie SHS were the biggest casualties in the quarter finals stage of the ongoing Ashanti Regional inter-schools soccer competition at the Baba Yara Stadium.
On a day when officials of the Sports Stadium decided to lock the stadium demanding payment for breakages of chairs in the stadium which delayed the start of the matches by about three hours.
But when the matches eventually kicked off at about half past twelve, it was Adu Gyamfi SHS who played a balanced game with KASS in the first half of the game but opened up in the second half of the game.
Adu Gyamfi created begging chances in the game but somehow managed to waste them with KASS holding on to a 4:3 victory in the penalty shootout. KASS will thus move to the semi finals of the competition while Adu Gyamfi SHS disappointingly drop out.
T. I. Amass Kumasi made mince meat of Sakafia SHS who won a protest over Akrofuom Senior High School but could not stand the might of Amass Phobia. Amass won 2:0 over Sakafia in a very uncompetitive game.
Opoku Ware School then eliminated OKESS in the third match of the day in the most exciting game of the day.
OKESS looked solid as a team with a lot of quality indepth but OWASS managed to wither the storm and gradually warmed themselves in the game. It was high tempo game with free flowing football from both sides. But in the end, it was OWASS who held on to their early narrow lead to book a semi final ticket.
Islamic SHS managed to eliminate last year finalist Collins Senior High Commercial courtesy a 2:0 victory gifted to Islamic as a result of two blunders committed by Collins.
The match looked boring with many supporters walking away before the blast of the final whistle. Islamic capitalised on two howlas from Collins to take a two goal lead in the first half and showed a lot of resilience to hold till the final whistle.
Islamic will thus play Opoku Ware in semi finals of the competition while T.I. Amass will take on Kumasi Anglican SHS on later date after the election.
The Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council congratulates the four semi finalists of the competition, Islamic, KASS, OWASS and T.I. Amass-Kumasi.
