Atletico Nacional fall foul of historic first as penalty is awarded through video technology at Club World Cup

Football moved a step closer to fully embracing video technology after a penalty was awarded in the Club World Cup using a video replay.   Referee Viktor Kassai stopped play in the semi-final between Atletico Nacional and Kashima Antlers and spent 30 second consulting a video replay before awarding the Japanese side a penalty in the 29th minute. Kashima defender Daigo Nishi was tripped inside the box by Atletico forward Orlando Berrio as he attempted to defend a wide free-kick. Video: Asamoah Gyan scores on his Al Ahli debut

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan scored the fourth and his first goal for Al Ahli against former club Al Ain in the Group stage of the Etisalat Cup. Al Ahli were leading three-nil when head coach Cosmin introduced Gyan in the 73rd minute. Before the Champions League draw on Thursday, an announcement was made by European football’s governing body. Several months after the 2015-16 season has ended, UEFA.com announced that Leo Messi has won the UEFA goal of the season for his golazo against Roma in last year’s Champions League. VIDEO: Japanese pole vaulter’s penis gets in his way at Olympics
