The President of the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation ( GWBF ) Mr Max Vardon has expressed the federation’s appreciation to the media during a meeting with some media men who have formed a network to promote Para Sports in the country when they paid a courtesy call on the President and some members of the Executive Committee of the GWBF on Monday 13th November 2017.
The media delegation was led by Mr Akakpo of Ash Fm and also among the delegation were , Mr FKM of Global FM / V1 TV , Mr Wisdom of Fafa Fm and Mr Stone of Asempa Fm .
The leader of the delegation in his statement said they were in to meet up with the leadership of GWBF to commend them for the good work they are doing and also to inform them about their network and assure the leadership of their support in promoting Para Sports in Ghana .
Mr FKM added that they have been monitoring activities of the federation for some time now and also the matured way the Ministry and the federation has resolve things concerning the situation about the Male National Teams participation in the African championship and will advice that the federation should remain focused and as well try to maintain a very good working relationship with the Ministry since its the best way para sports can be well develop in the country. He went ahead to state that every misfortune is a blessing and whatever has happened in his opinion has created a very big awareness for Para Sports in the country and the needed attention from the Ministry as well ,therefore the need for the federation to put everything behind them and move on.
The President of the Federation Mr Vardon thanked the delegation for their visit and as well said ,it is really welcoming with regards to the media’s recent attention given to Para Sports and it’s related issues and there is the need for them to be commended for the great job .
He further mentioned that whatever happened is a thing of the past and that what matters most is for the federation to remain focused and work on its action plan for next year which will focus much on development and promotion mainly at the National level. He went ahead to say that the future of wheelchair basketball is great and this is the time every Ghanaian must come on board to support in whatever way they can .
He concluded his statement by saying ,”we will forever be grateful to the media”.
The Secretary General of GWBF Wilson Agbesi said the federation is poised to chalk success and all efforts will be put in place in achieving the said goal and that he is very much sure that sooner or later Ghana will be the hub for Para Sports in Africa looking at the rate at which para sports is picking up in the country .
He went ahead to acknowledge the great job of Mr Peter Adjei and his Team for the official launching of the Para Athletics Federation and the Para Powerlifting Federation and said this is a clear evidence of how para sports is growing in Ghana .
The media delegation finally left after a vote of thanks by the Head Coach Mr Elvis.
