Porcupines confident of victory in Berekum

Having successfully passed their first stern test at home in the 2016/17 Premier League, the Porcupine Warriors are charged to deal with the next opponent.

With that, Berekum Chelsea will taste the venom of the determined Porcupines on Sunday when they welcome Kotoko to the Golden City Park, Berekum, on match day two of the competition.

Kotoko showed mental fortitude to come from a goal down to beat Liberty Professionals 2-1 last Sunday. The Fabulous Boys are currently second on the league table with three points. As the league enters its second week, fireworks should be expected from the players who have resolved to win their second straight game to set themselves apart.

The mindset of the team after their win over Liberty has been strongly positive. At Adako Jachie, it is easy to see how the players have put the joy over the hard-fought victory on Sunday well behind them. They have been focusing on another win to boost their forward march. Coach Zdravko Logarusic has been working on deficiencies identified in the last match. That confirms the seriousness and importance Kotoko have attached to the clash in Berekum.

The Golden City Park has been a slippery terrain for Kotoko in the last decade but that must change this Sunday. It’s been two draws and two defeats for Kotoko in the last four treks to Berekum. Zdravko and his charges must work hard to write a victorious story this time. Berekum Chelsea will come with urgency particularly when they lost 1-2 to Tema Youth last Sunday. Kotoko should thus be on guard to avoid defeat.

Evans Quao, Amos Frimpong, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi and Obed Owusu will not be in action due injuries but there are capable replacements.

With the sterling performance exhibited by Eric Donkor, Ollenu Ashitey, Edwin Tuffour, Seth Opare, Emmanuel Gyamfi and all who featured against Liberty, Coach Zdravko doesn’t have selection headaches.

The combined experience of goalkeeper, Ernest Sowah; centre backs Ahmed Adams and Osei Agyeman not forgetting midfielder, Jackson Owusu – who have all played for Berekum Chelsea before, would be to Kotoko’s advantage. The Porcupines are ready for Sunday’s feisty clash in Berekum and for once, they will crush their opponent in their backyard.
